Cherry Offers Non-Contact Magnetic Rotary Postion Sensors
Cherry Electrical Products' new AN8 series of rotary position sensors provides continuous non-contact angular position sensing to full 360° rotation.
This 5VDC ratiometric device operates with a Cherry standard magnet carrier, or the sensor may be programmed for use with custom magnets. Custom programming for rising or falling output slope with selectable offset, gain and clamp voltage is available. The series name for the sensor and magnet together is CU1036.
Unlike potentiometric devices which can wear out from heavy use or from dither, the Hall-effect-based Cherry AN8 sensor has no moving parts, so it has no susceptibility to wear. This results in improvements in life and reliability. With a sensor housing thickness of only 8.5 mm, the AN8 fits into tight spaces where previous generations of rotary sensors could not.
This rugged sensor has a maximum operating temperature of 125°C and the sealed design exceeds the IEC529 IP67 standard for immersion. Applications include PRNDL switch for harsh environments and steer wheel position for drive by wire systems.
